I am creating several reports in Access and exporting them as .rtf files. I am then using Outlook to email these files as attachments to customers. The problem is when I send the email, the attachments are .rtf files, but when the customer receives the email, the files have been converted to txt files, thus losing a lot of the formatting of the reports.

I would:
1) create a report and open it to make sure it is rtf.
2) create an email and attach the file.
3) save the email but do not send it.
4) open the attachment to make sure it is rtf.
5) send the email to yourself.
6) open the attachment in your "Sent Mail" to make sure they are rtf.
7) open the attachment in your "Received Mail" to make sure they are rtf.

If that is all OK, the problem is on their end.

I have actually done that, and everything looks fine through step 6, then when I receive the Email, it has been changed to a .txt file.

Check with your mail administrator to see what filters they are applying to outgoing mail.

For sending to internet addresses from an Exchange server, you must go to each addressee in the address book, select Properties for that user, select the SMPT-General Tab, select Send Options and check MIME and HTML. Otherwise, the default action for an Exchange server is to convert HTML and RTF to plain text when sending over the internet.
