I am just begging for a reason to build an Athlon TBird 1200 system. Can anyone provide me with advice for a decent motherboard that supports onboard SCSI LVD/2. Also, if there are any server builders here can your tell me any shortfalls in using these as high performance rackmounts/video servers etc.

Thanks in advance. I would like to start a server builder forum. Any takers?

I don't know of any that support on-board SCSI - why not just add an Adaptec 294x/798x card?

The best board I know of for Athlons is the ABit KT7A RAID. With this you could have a pair of, for example, IBM Deskstar 75Gb drives running RAID 0 or 1 - which is more than any on-board SCSI controller can currently do.

The KT7A (The A is important!) has a FSB of 266 MHz, which, put simply, means that a 1.2 GHz Tbird will run faster in this board than in almost any other board.

Until I see a dual Athlon board of quality, I would not consider these processors for a server.

Having said that, I know of a project that is trying to get 192 Athlons SNMP'd in a custom-built mainboard!
