I had a virus and this problem started after the virus was gone. Access 2000 has been reinstalled several times with the same messages reoccuring (I also reinstalled the operating system.) There are two messages that happen when I open Access one following the other.(They also happen if I try to create a new database or open an existing one.

"An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning poperly. Would you like to repair the feature now. (Answer "yes" goes throught installation process with no meaningful messages then gives me MS Access could't find file system.mdw.)"
If I answer no I immediately get the last message i.e "could't find file system.mdw." The system.mdw is in C:\program files\microsoft shared\system.

I am running on a NT 2000 server.

Also every time I start MS Access from the desktop it tries to install. I let it do it's stuff and I still have the problem. I installed all of Office at the same time and all other applications work properly.

Can anyone help me? I am lost.

In design mode have you gone into the workgroup manager and assign yourself to the right mdw file? Robert Berman

Addendum to previous message. If you can't open Access at all, set up a shortcut on your desktop so that when you start an Access application, use the commmand line options to use the system mdw file. Attach your shortcut to any Access database. You simply want to force the use of the system mdw. Robert Berman

Creation of desktop shortcut:

Right-click on Desktop and choose New Shortcut.

In Command-line, type following exactly.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSACCESS.EXE"
/wrkgrp "C:\program files\microsoft shared\system.mdw"

Name of shortcut should default to MSACCESS. Click Finish

Try executing the shortcut.

I use this method when I need a user to execute a database that uses a particular security workgroup file and don't have nay problems with it.
