Hi, I have an Avaya Definity switch using Lucent 8410D phones which work fine, but I now have some AT&T 7406 Plus phones. If I replace a Lucent phone, with an AT&T, the phone does not work at all, i.e. No dial tone of any LEDs on. If I set the station type to 7406, it is rejected.

Should these AT&T phones work at all?

Thanks,

Ashley

ashuk73 This might sound like a stupid question but I have to ask? Did you change the set type on the station page.

Thanks
Ed

1a2 to ip I seen it all

Hi
You do realise that 7406 stations are 4-wire working only?

alanpye is correct you must use 4 wire digital packs (tn754 will work) for the 7400 series of phones. Most likely you are trying to connect it to a pack that only does 2 wire.

Thanks for the help. I have set the station type to 7406+ and this does not make any difference. All my Lucent phones only have 2-wire connections.

Do you know what changes are required to support 4-wire phones.

You Have to have a 4 wire circuit pack - TN754

How many 7406S are you planning to roll out , as each TN754 card supports 8 stations?
You will also have to rejumper your 110 frame and use 4 wire cords instead of two, or double up with your 2 wire ones

When you say 'pack' do you mean the cards that are fitted into the switch. I am unfamiliar with the terminology at the moment. My switch has a TN2214B pack? from which all my digital lines are run from.

Thanks again for your help,
Ashley

As the others have said - 7400 series digital phones will only work off of a TN754 circuit card. This is a four wire digital card. 7400 series digital phones will not work off of 2 wire digital circuit packs.

Yes. They are telling you that in order to make the 7406 work it has to have a Tn754 circuit pack installed into the switch. These sets work off 4 wires instead of 2 which is the reason you need this different circuit pack installed. They sell a 2 pair jumper that the colors are red/blue red/orange. This lets me find those types sets at a glance. The wiring to make this work after you have your pack installed is to use the white/orange and the white/green on the jacks. That should have you up and running.

From what I see posted here, your best bet is to contact a local vendor who knows the Definity switch. One helpful service call can save you a lot of grief.

Thanks All for your help. My foggy view of the Avaya switch is now pierced with sun beams :)
