i am having a problem with my asus dvd drive that i just installed. the old drive would spin up and then keep spinning and wouldn't register in the my computer folder. i replaced it with a asus drw-24b1st cd/rewritable drive. it now spins up and stops but still doesn't register in the my computer folder. i have tried to update the drivers but it says they are up to date. i have also tried downloading the drivers specific to my drive from the asus website. it says i do not have that specific drive installed on my computer. when i go into the property's of the drive in the device manager it says code10 can not start but says the drivers are all good.i installed windows 7 on my compaq sr5433wm desktop computer at the same time as replacing the drive. any help you could give me would be much appreciated. thank you in advance

That's an old one kjv1611. Happens all the time. Any time you hear "can't see my optical drive letter" - thy that procedure first.

Thanks for the references and pointers, guys. I'm surprised I've not run into that one to date. My guess is that it's very common nowadays for the optical drive to hardly be used at all what with so much content available via digital downloads.
