i have recenty upgraded most of my system, i kept the old drives.

i am now using an asus a7v600-x mb with an amd xp 2800+

now win XP will not recognize my keyboard.

I have tried to reinstall windows, but the install will recognize my kb either.

I can use it in BIOS all day long, though.

p.s. i hate on-screen keyboard

It would have helped had you stated what kind of keyboard we are talking about.

I am going to assume USB.
. if there is a legacy USB support option in the BIOS, enable it.

Test. If still no keyboard the issue is likely the Asus BIOS version, as several had issues with disabling keyboards: e.g.:

its a standard ps/2 keyboard,
i was using a compaq kb w/ easy access buttons, then swapped it out with a silicon harbor keyboard, and got thr same problem...

You will need to get the HID driver to load. See: thread779-866195

i went to the kb control panel item, n the hardware tab did not list any devices, i tried the prop. button, but nothing happened. the add hardwre wzard did not help either

thanks bcastner,
That fixed it,
I am so glad to be using my keyboard, instead of the on screen keyboard.

That was the exact problem/solution that I had/needed
Now I'm off to email asus, and tell them about this problem.
