Asterisk character in vector variable?? 1

Does anyone know of a way to include an Asterisk (*) character in a variable string in Avaya CM. I need to build a digit string to send to an adjunct system (using a "converse-on" vector step) and the string needs to include asterisk characters in the middle of the string. I know how to manipulate digits strings using variables, but I can't find a way to include an asterisk.

This feature gives options for Call Vectoring to allow the user to enter data on a Vector Collect
step using the # and/or * keys in addition to the digits 0 through 9. . Without these options, the *
key causes entry to start over after dripping previously entered digits, and the # indicates end-ofentry.
There are system-wide options, applying only to “Vector Collect” call vectoring steeps, but
applying to all “Vector Collect‟s“in all vectors. The digits collected are made available to the ASAI
interface via the “adjunct” step. The # will have the value Hex23 (0x23) and the * will have the
value Hex 2a (0x2a). These options are available so that customers may prompt for entry of
account codes or other information which contains # or *, and have that information transmitted
over ASAI to a host. These options will be referred to below as the Collect Literally Options.
There will be an option for * and an option for #, both options may be active together.

Actually I'm not having any difficulty receiving the asterisk character with a vector "collect" step. However that doesn't really address my problem. Once I collect a digit string that includes the "*" I need to store it in a variable so I can manipulate the string. It appears that I cannot store a digit string that includes an "*" in a variable. therein is my issue.

Any additional thoughts?

I don't think so...

And I don't deal with it much... but doesn't converse-on send a # after passing a variable? can you not work with that instead?

I can deal with the # at the end of the variable, but I still need an * (maybe a couple of them) in the middle of the digit string in the variable.
