If I can’t solve the screen redrawing problem, is there a way that I can change the redraw keys, (Ctrl, Shift, F12) to something like (Numpad 0).

This way I can at least use one hand to do it?

Mike

Yes up to date as of this week, version 30. something.

Screen redraw is one of the quirks with PM.. some people have no luck at all and I have never experienced it. Apart from refresh rate and drivers, I have never heard of any other solution. Sorry! When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Nohjekim,

Did you ever find an answer to this problem? I have experienced the same persistant issue. I recently switched to an nvidia quadro card, hoping the problem would go away, but it did not. It's driving me nuts, and I'd really like to know if you ever found a resolution.

I never did find an answer to this and it still bugs me.

I have gotten used to hitting the plus minus buttons on the tool bar at the top of the screen with a mouse click but I would love to have it just redraw the screen by it's self.

I have had PageMaker since version 4, and I don't remember what version this started with I know it didn't do it originally.

Every time I get a new computer I pray that this time it will solve it but I have had the problem through several computers and versions of PageMaker. I work with PageMaker almost everyday and this is a pain.

I don't know why Adobe doesn’t address this but they seem to have little interest in PageMaker anymore. I think they would like us to switch to Indesign, I have Indesign but I am still working with a lot of people who use PageMaker and that is the file type they want me to supply.

In the past I have tried to use Indesign and found little support for it in my area, I think that this is changing and eventually I will switch over but for now I'd like to have this problem solved.

Hi, Mike,

You could try hitting Ctr+; twice in quick succession. It turns the guides off and on.

I've only encounter the problem you refer to when our cheap corporate font is on the screen and beinf resized.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have tried a number of techniques and found that mouse clicking on the + - keys is the easiest for me, (I don’t have to use two hands) but it is still a pain to have to do this constantly to be able to see the type on the screen.

On my last computer retarding the video acceleration would solve the problem but that doesn’t work on this one.

Enough people have this problem for Adobe to try and fix it I can't believe that it can be that hard to make the screen redraw, after all every other program I have ever worked with does it.

So I'm beginning to accept the fact that I must spend the rest of my life typing ctrl-;. How sad this makes me. I searched the web for answers all day yeaterday, and came up with nothing. I'm very disappointed in Adobe. Thanks, guys, I'll keep watching this thread in case someone comes up with something. Any tips on other Pagemaker discussion areas in which I can make a pest of myself?

You might try setting you video acceleration back a notch or two; this did help on my last computer. Go to your video card properties and look for a slider that controls “Hardware Acceleration” move this back a couple of notches.

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to make any difference on my present computer.

This problem may be related to what kind of video card you have, but I need to run a high tech card because of other 3D applications I use.

I have been told that running a card not geared toward gaming and video applications will solve this but I don't want to give up my hot card.

Mike

Yeah, setting back the video acceleration didn't help me either. I'm running an nvidia quadro card with dual monitor outs, I don't want to give it up, it's a great card. The quadro was supposed to be decent with 2d apps. No problems at all except with pagemaker. Oh well...
