when i assign a resource to someone and they sign in through Project Web access it doesn't show the tasks under their tasks. even though their name is under the resources column, it still doesn't show up to them under Project web access in their tasks.
Agreed. Even if the resource is a room, server, dump truck, or some other item, you should assign the person and the thing to the task. As JulieInMaine noted, assign resources to tasks.

Under project 2003 I made a project with tasks, first i put people in the resource list from the company directory, then i assigned those resources to the tasks, then i published the tasks.
when i go through this process, what i want to happen is when anyone logs on to Project Web Access it should show the all the tasks assigned to them under their tasks tab. unfortunately it does not do that. the only thing it does in under the project tab in Project Web Access it shows the project and its tasks, with their name under resources of that task, but it doesn't actually show up under their tasks in the tasks tab.
I don't use Project Server or PWA - but isn't there a My Tasks link? Are the tasks in the future? If I recall, the tasks listed in the My Tasks section of PWA are only 'current'. Is there a checkbox that you can deselect to show all tasks?
You may get more helpful responses than mine if you post to the Microsoft forum for Project Server:
If you post, please explicitly state what version of Project you are using and also details as you did in the second post -- make it as easy as you can to allow people to help you efficiently without multiple postings to gather information.
I do use Project Server and PWA, but am not familiar with the functionality you are describing. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but it does mean we don't use it at my company.
