Hello all,
I have a quick question about a switch. I am currently redesigning my network and wondering about something. In the old network all the switches have VLANs and are routed through these. I am changing this to having two networks with IP addresses. Now here is the question. Instead of changing everything at once, I would like to ease all the servers into this new network, but this is what I want to do:
I have 2 new servers, I and I want to put them on the new switch. The IP addresses for the servers are:
Server 1- 10.1.100.101
Server 2- 10.1.100.102
The IP address for the Switch is going to be 10.1.100.200
The old switch has a vlan, but is in the same subnet, ie 10.1.100.50
Can I have the new switch just connected via crossover cable and it will be with in the network without assigning a vlan to it?
The idea is that I put the new servers on it, then slowly migrate everything over from the old switch to the new.
Thanks
Mel
