Hello again !

This is getting decidedly boring. Last week it was the K7S5A, now its a 939 board that is giving me trouble.

But this time the fans start, so I know that something is working.

Configuration :
1 Asrock 939Dual Sata board
1 AMD Athlon 64
2 1GB DDR400
1 Radeon 8500 AGP

and the chassis speaker connector is on the board. The PWRBTN pins are jumpered so when I flip the switch on the PSU, the board starts.

The CMOS has been cleared. The components are all functional (CPU, RAM, Radeon).

I start the PC by switching the PSU on, the fans on the Radeon and the CPU start, turn for three seconds, then stop. The screen receives no signal, the PC is dead.

Any ideas ?

Pascal.

I've got nothing to hide, and I'd very much like to keep that away from prying eyes.

Hiya pascal
The pwr (power) header pins need a momentary switch connecting. Using a permanent jumper on these header pins WILL lead to an delayed 3-4 second shut down cycle (thats normal operation)

Cool, I didn't know that. Looks like it's been a bit too long since I've dabbed in the mechanical part of a PC.

I'll just have to hook up everything to the case then, and see how that works.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep you posted.

Pascal....
Or just bridge the pwr pinouts momentarily with a small flat blade terminal screw driver...

Mission accomplished !

I am now the happy owner of a Debian 5.0 64-bit PC. The OS recognizes all components without trouble, even the network. Funny thing though, when I try using the Packet Manager, it says the list is out of date and asks for a Refresh. I refresh, but to no avail, the list still needs refreshing.

All is still not perfect in LinuxLand. But it sure does look good !

Thanks for everything,

Pascal.
