Hi all,

Windows XP SP2 (so IIS 5.1)

I'm getting an event log of:

The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/Root'. The error was 'The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password.

Type: Warning
Event ID: 36
Source: W3SVC

Symptoms are that even with a fresh install of IIS I get HTTP 500 on all ASP pages. This includes default pages for IIS (e.g. IIS Help) and even blank .htm files that I change to .asp (so no code at all).
If I take off friendly errors I get:

Server Application Error
The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance.

I've followed the MS KB Article 297989 ( but I'm still having the same problem.

As per the article, if I change the application protection mode to low the it works fine.

Can anyone help me on this? I've removed COM+ and IIS then reinstalled COM+ and IIS but no luck.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve.
