Have a wierd problem with our ASA Firewall. Simple setup, core network setup with various VLANS, and a static route to direct anything from a specific network via the ASA interface. After about 5 to 10 minutes the link from the VLAN to the ASA stops responding, and will only come alive if a ICMP request is sent to it direct from the core switch?

Arp Issue maybe? Could someone be using the IP of the firewall? When you see it down on your workstation bring up a comamnd prompt and type arp -a. Check the MAC address for the ASA and make sure it matches.

We tried that, and all looks OK. The interface of the ASA is on the same VLAN as the systems needing to talk outward. It seems that the traffic goes to the Core network and routed to the ASA correctly for a while then tries to connect direct and seem to stop as if no route out?

Can you post a scrubbed config? Also if you dont have logging on, turn it on.

logging buffered 6
logging on

Do a sh log when the issue happens. Its possible you are hitting a defined connection limit maybe due to DoS.
