Schedule jobs. The start, format estimate, do a few minutes and then set themselves to hold with no excpanation in job log. So I go back in (there are two jobs) I set one back to ready and it starts and runs okay. I reschedule the other one to start in a few minutes time and it runs okay. Yet the next day, same jobs that have reschedules themselves do the hold crap again! Anyone seen this? Even better, anyone resolved it?

Have not seen it. Set the Job Engine in debug and check the activity log after it happens.

Okay. Nothing in any of the logs, nothing. What happens is, job runs (we have two jobs - same happens on both), it appears to run fine. Active, connect to media, format, estimating, then is back up a few files and crashes. Job goes on hold and the 'last result' column changes to Crashed. Then I just click the jobs back to Ready, they start again and run fine. They then rechedule themselves for the next day and this crash happens again. I thought it might be schedule, cut 'Custom' every day, or 'Every' every day produces the same result. I'd really like to get our backups running without the need to manually intervene each day! Anyone got any further ideas or have you seen it before?

Kind of strange that they should crash with no message why. Usually a crashed job is do to a Tape Engine problem, which also would have put a message into the activity log.

Try setting the jobs to start 15 to 30 min. apart. It would be good to see if the first job ran fine until the second started.

Thanks for the reply. First job switches itself on hold before the second job starts. Log just says job status changed old-hold new-ready.

Few things to try,
Of course ensure all latest patches...

Try stopping then restarting all services, then creating a brand new job with similar targets & run now (if you can) & see it if it still happens.

Do you have any remote clients or is it just a local backup?

If you still get crashes from the job you have created try pruning the job down bit by bit until it no longer crashes... This should elimate any security issues - although these should log!

See how u go,
Cheers,

HI,

Try blowing out the Job Q folder.. 00000001.qsd
Stop the job engine..
rename this folder..
restart the job engine.. the folder will get created again..

recreate the backup jobs.. see how it goes..

hope it helps..

Cheers

regards
Mohamdr

So apply the patches 9.01 patch & patch3 to solve many problem, your problem may be resolved if you apply them .

Aha! Thanks for that. Patches have been applied but build and version don't seem to have changed. Will have another bash and report back.

Now I'm getting somewhere! When I go to apply the 9.01 updatem, only the open file agent is highlighted for update. It won;t let me apply the update to the base product. This was an upgrade from 6.61 to 9.

According to those terribly clever chaps at CA, 2040 is the latest build level and that is why it won't update. Anyone disagree?

Just checked QO44844.caz is patch 4A, and QO48355 is the Device Support Patch 1.

With both installed it is reported as 9.0 build 9041 and the Tape Engine is dated Dec. 2.

Excellent - thanks. Will 'feed this back'. The thread continues...

Okay! I have one of the jobs working now. Not sure how though!
The sceond job continues to crash to hold a few minutes after startup, then you put itback to ready and it runs.

Now, the job that works has owner administrator and the one we're still having problems with has owner caroot. Hmm. Any way to change the owner without re-doing the entire job?
