Artistic is Unavailable

Hello,

Why is the Artistic filter sometimes unavailable. I try QuickMask and it makes that filter available, but when I try any of the filters in that category, they don't do anything. Do I need to convert or what do I need to do to us that filter.

Just figured it out. It has to be converted to RGB. I don't see the advantage to working in PhotoShop. I think I prefer working in Illustrator, and then if I need to use filters bring it into PhotoShop.
