Hello,

Everytime a backup runs, all of the agents deny any requests from the backup servers, and locks out the Arcserve user account that we use for the backups.

I have attempted to log onto all of the clients and set the password, set the password in the server admin utility, and ensured that the password is correct in user manager. But it is still locking the account out.

On one or two of the client agents, the only security option i get is to use either system security or password security, but if i use system security, how do i tell it what user account to use?

Does anybody have any suggestions, and know of all the palces where i should check the user account and password that is used?

Hi,
You should try to specify what you are trying to backup with what agents.
However if you are sure that you have entered the right account and password and it still gets locked I would try to create a brand new account with a new password. Once you have done that you should configure all the agents to use this new account. Also make sure that the account is member of the Domain Admins group so that it has the access to backup servers over the network. If you indeed are backing up servers on the network that are stand-alone servers make sure to put in the newly created backup account to the local administrators group on that box. Hope this helps.

GSC

When using system security, the security information at the agent end is left blank. The user name and password is enterned at the server end under the client agent.

At the time the backup starts the ARCserve will do a logon to the target system using the provided user name and password.

If password security is used then the user name specified at the server end does not matter. All that matters is the password entered at the server matches what was entered at the agent.

Cheers, I'll create a new account, and then i'll try using password security setting it to the new accounts password. See if that can stop the account from being locked out.

Do you know of any way of logging what computers are trying to use this account?

Lurky,

Here is another thing to check:

Open ARCServe Manager, and select job status.

Pick any job, select modify, then go to FILE, SAVE AS, and it will bring up the Security and agent info, where you should see ALL the agents (and the servers) that are using the account and password. You need to fix ALL of them to make sure they are using the correct password for the ARCserve user.

HTH,

David
