Hi there,

I have followed Method 3 found here on Microsofts website

Step 9 is where im stuck - restoring the databases.

Background:

The backup tape is backed from from a domain called INTERNAL.NET and the exchange server is called EXCH1

When i followed the article, i build a test machine in a new domain called TEST.NET and the server was called TESTEXCH

When i try to restore from tape to the recovery server, I keep getting this error from Backup Exec:

"Error: The database Mailbox Store (server name) must be created prior to restore. An error occurred restoring the database."

and Event ID Error 9635 in the application log.

What am i doing wrong!!!!!!!???????

Thanks!

Thanks, seen that though, and neither applies!

Did you create the store? Is it definately the same name?

In the end i started again, but naming the recovery Exchange server the same as the production one.

This got me restored ok.

I then had to use the ExchangeLegacyDN tool to change the Organisation and Admin group names (due to our Exchange being upgraded from 5.5 a few years ago)

(I had actually mirrored what the production Exchange System manager settings were - this turned out to be a mistake.)

I.e On the production server, and at the root of the Exchange System manager it said EXCHANGE (EXCHANGE) - was the organisation name on, and the First Admin group was called LONDON. It turned out though, (and i found this out from saving an email to my desktop from my Outlook as an .msg and opening in Notepad) that the actual Organisation was "Companyname" and the First Admin group was "Baker Street".

I then had to grant Enterprise Admins full control to the databases before i could see the mailboxes.

Then used Exmerge.

Success!!

Thanks for your help.
