Are 9 GB disks big enough for a system with 6 MB memory?

I have a couple of E4500s that each have 6 MB of memory each. More memory might be added later.

Each have 2 internal disks that are 9.1 GB each. There is no OS on the systems and I am not sure which version will be required (7, 8 or 9). They will be connected to disk arrays that will hold non-OS apps and data.

I know Solaris 9 will fit on a 9 GB disk if there is just 1 GB of memory.

Will I be able to fit the OS on these small disks and have enough space for swap and sys dump for a system with at least 6 MB of memory AND (of course) mirror the OS?

6 meg is too small for any SonOS since 4.1, I hope you mean 6 gig.
You can put swap on multiple drives if you are worried thet you want 12 gig of swap for 6 gig of RAM

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I hope you mean 6GB too!

That's plenty of room to install the OS. Consider doing a core cluster install or just end user install if you want to keep the space used by the OS down. The core cluster install is well under 100MB.

I would suggest a maximum of 2GB of swap unless your applications are going to be very memory intensive. Since swap only contains volatile data you may consider just striping across the two drives instead of mirroring, but that would mean the system would go down if either disk failed.

Annihilannic.
