Hi,

I have a Tape Library, with dual Ultrium drives, these are in a RAID0 set.

The job backs up multiple servers, however the tape usage by Arcserve is appauling.
On some tapes I have as little as 1.5GB (yes 1.5GB on a 100/200GB tape!) - what a waste!

Has any one comes across this particular issue?

Or does anyone have any ideas...other than switching to Veritas :)

Thanks.

Hi
Do you mean your tapes are only filled with 1.5G and it goes to next tape and do the same writes only 1.5 per tape and it left the rest which 98.5 as a waste!! Are you sure about this since this is really strange.

Are you using Arcserve 2000? what is the sp level?

if you are euing Arcserve 2000 try apply the tape Engine update it fixes may problem related to tape Engine

regards,
mohamdr

Hi,

Its not quite as bad as that, some of the tapes are used, though not as full as I would like.
The 1.5GB is the worst case!

I'm going to check the SP level and hot fixes later today...but I am led to believe we are up to date.

Thanks, Jeff.

Nice one...thanks for this...am now looking at the SCSI through put to the drives and also the LAN as the data is almost all from LAN attached devices.

Thanks, Jeff.
