Hi. I've got Novell 4.11 and ARCServe 9. I want to restore few files from last weeks backup. I've got the last weeks tape in the drive (it's full backup) and restoring "by session" but when I try to expand the tree it says that "There is no items to display in this view", but if I select whole tree it's being restored without problems (but I don't have enogh space on the server for full restore). Can anybody give any sugestion how to get around this problem, please? Or is there some other way? Thank you.

Hi,

Usually this means that the tape needs to be merged into the database. Try merging the tape. Once you do this you should be able to expand and browse the tree.

Thank you Lou. Your solution is very good way around but it didn't worked for me (E1010 Failed to Initialize database to begin merging media MONDAY sequence 1(ID fdd7) session 1, 3).
I have some strange things going on there- all my backups are "full weekly backups" (I have checked few times to make sure) but when I'm triyng to restore ARCServe only recognise Friday backups as full. And when I asked to restore last Monday it's ask for previos Friday tape first and then instead of Monday it's asking for Yesterday's tape. It just doesn't make sence to me.
Thanks.

Hi again,

It seems that your database is corrupt. Take a look at this document which outlines how to repair an Arcserve database.

If you cannot repair the database, you will need to recreate the database directory and copy the contents of the emptydb directory into it and then merge the tape.

Lou

By the way, do not worry about the version on that link. The database repair for all versions is virtually the same.

Hi Lou! Thanks for your sugestion I will definetly try that.
I have tryed to setup my backup a bit different way last night, instead of running on preset settings I have selected custom settings and when I have tryed to restore it comes up as "Full Backup". I'll try tomorrow to restore few files from it. Thanks again.
