We've just installed a new HP ProLiant ML350 G5 which includes an Ultrium 920 tape drive. The drive is not connected via onboard SCSI, instead it's connected via an HP SAS HBA card - however, nothingelse is connected to this controller. NT Backup is detecting the device without any problems, but ArcServe doesn't detect that there are any tape drives in the server. Does anybody have any ideas why this is?

Did you verify that tape drive is supported by your version of ArcServe?

When we purchased a new LTO Tape Drive I had to check on CA's website first to verify that it was supported. In fact I had to upgrade to ver 11.5 because the drive we wanted wasn't supported by 11.

Yea, I've verified on the list below:
We're already running version 11.5 SP3 and the firmware is already up to date also. Does ArcServe need it's own drivers for the tape drive to work? I've can't find where to download then (contact CA and was told to contact our re-seller for them !!). Would really appreciate some help with this. If CA could at least provide me with the utilities to help myself, it'd be a start !!

Thanks in advance

Did you ck for the controller on the CDL?
This is the only HP SAS controller certified.
SAS3080X-HP 6.08.05.00 lsi_sas.sys / 1.21.3.0
Does not mean others will not work but that one is known to work.

To troubleshoot.
ARCserve Server Admin, Configuration, Tape Engine, message level Detail. Stop start Tape Engine then ck tape.log in the ARCserve log directory.
