Hi,

We need to backup a server with a exclude filter on
somme files but we still want to use that backup for
Disater Recovery. Are there any work around to make
a full Backup with filter and the DR still works.

Thank.

As an update to vschumpy's useful post, the link has now been updated:

"Update: BrightStor ARCserve Backup For Windows r11.1 Service Pack 1 adds support for using filters with DR backups."

I am currently in conversation with CA about this as AV updates on my servers change daily (date & time stamped). It is not possible to filter individual file names which change throughout the day, only folders. This raises the question over whether servers can be recovered from backups from which entire folders have been excluded. For example, if I boot a server post-DR restore and AV calls on a file in a folder that has not been restored because the folder was excluded... Stable system? Waiting to hear...

With filter exclusions you do have to use a certain amount of common sense - eg if you exluded c:\winnt then you're still not going to be able to recover your server.

I'm not quite sure what your trying to achieve though - I think maybe you are thinking of a different type of filtering? AV=Anti-virus right ? I don't see any reason why you could not filter specific filenames - can you give me more of any idea what you are wanting to achieve (any example would be great).
