Basically what is happening is I came to work for a warehouse, and I am building them a website. The accountant asked me to see what I could do about giving her Remote access to the Database, so she could login while offsite. seems easy enough, just use the webserver to allow her to log into the database server. well that wasn't going to work because for some reason the program they use for there database is only useable with 2 different types of network cards (very specific, neither are made anymore). However the bosses computer is a win98 box, so if just installed a regular ethernet card (along w/ the old one that was used to talk to the database) and ran a cable from there to the webserver (of which is WINXP). figured I could just share out the network drives and access them that way. well when I installed the ethernet card, it removed the older network card... and all of the files that went with it.
the database server is running Novell NetWare 3.12
the company is to cheep to upgrade (most of the computers here are 286's!) the bosses computer still isn't working.
we no longer have any of the original software that came with any of the computers.

I’m not extremely fluent in administering a network, I mainly just do webdevelopment....

any ideas PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Thank You;

James Carter

Hi James,

I'm not sure exactly where your problem lies. Netware 3.12 should handle all the comms, not the database.

I have a Netware 3.12 box still running and have a mix of clients - DOS, Win95, Win98 and Win2000Pro. All connect with a varity of NICs. These cards vary in age from about 10 years to 6 weeks.

It also sounds as if you are talking about the client-side NICs which makes less sense to me.

Could you list the database and NICs you're currently using? That may jog a memory. No promises though.

Is it possible that when you removed the NIC from the workstation, that you also removed the Novell client? that would cause problems. Make sure in your network configuration you have:

Novell Client
IPX (So you can get to the NetWare 3.12 server)
IP (So you can get to web server and other internet stuff)
Network Card
