Hi I have a problem where a third party piece of software that I have on my 2003 server wont open when I use remote desktop from xp. I have got it to work before but to do this I had to enter a command in to the run box to get the remote desktop login box up and then it worked i have forgoten the command. Any ideas

Try testing remote desktop in colsole mode. Console mode will lock the server so nobody else can login other than you. This should help eliminate some possibilities.

To run console mode from your xp station, put this in the START > RUN prompt:

mstsc /console /v:YOUR_MACHINE_HERE

Thanks
That has worked I just put in the mstc /console in to the run line and it opened the same remote desktop log in box as it would if I went to start-allprograms-acsseries-communication-remote desktop and opened it, the difference being I am able to open the third party software if I use the mstsc /console why exactly is this?

Many thanks

The console switch runs as if you are setting at the desktop of the server. This may mean that your application does not like running on a terminal server as a 'shared" application.

You may also want to try using the "mode" of TS for legacy applications. You can try this setting under the TS Server properties.
