Hi,

My company wants to do Stress, Performance, and Volume testing on a new Core Banking Application. They would like to know what needs to be measured in terms of database performance (CPU,memory, disk IO, etc.) and how to measure them in Oracle.

The vendor was saying that we also have to measure things like TPS and Response Time as well when the application is running.

As I'm quite new in Performance Tuning and Capacity Planning, can anyone give me pointers on what I need to measure and how to measure them.

We're using Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1 Enterprise Edition on Solaris 8 on a 2 CPU 8GB Sun Box.

Thanks for any help.

Antz,

Here are three excellent books (each available from Amazon.com for $25-$35 new):

1. Oracle Performance Tuning, by Mark Gurry, Peter Corrigan
2. Optimizing Oracle Performance -- by Cary Millsap
3. The Art and Science of Oracle Performance Tuning -- by Christopher Lawson

While at Oracle I worked with Cary Millsap, the author of book #2. He is Oracle's chief guru of performance tuning techniques.

Good luck. Let us know your findings after you have been through the paces.
