Application log fills up

I get this message about the application log being full. I have gone into the properties of all three log files and changed the setting for overwritting event to "as needed", and filtered out the information hit apply and everything stays that way untill I reboot then is goes back to the old way. This is on a Terrminal server running Windows 2000 all current patches are applied.

could it be a permissions issue? Maybe you do not have enough permissions to change that area of Event viewer.
 
Check that a domain policy isn't overriding your local policy.

It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.
 
I made the change to the user logging in and unchecked inherited permissions. Hopefully that will work.
