The machines in question are HP model VL400 (PIII/1Ghz and 128 MB RAM).

They are now loaded with WinNT Workstation 4.0 and I've tried every service pack from 3 to 6a with the same result.

The hardware is good because each of the machines began life as Win98 clients when they first arrived and everything worked great.

HP has updated drivers for each of the approprate components (IDE controller/NIC/soundcard/etc...) and all of the hardware and software seems to be in good working order after applying the various patches (to spite the error message).

In each case, I have a message in the application log event viewer that reads:

--------------------------------------------

Event ID: 1011
Source: Perflib
Type: Error
Category: None

Description:
The library file "Perfctrs.dll" specified for the "Nbf" service could not be opened. Performance data for this service will not be available. Status code is data DWORD 0.

Data: (0)Bytes ( )Words

--------------------------------------------

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, unlees you are doing performance monitoring this is not a critical issue. NBF is NetBEUI Frame- are you using NetBEUI on your network, or did you at one time and then remove it? Are you running any performance monitoring tools such as MeasureWare?

No, we are running straight TCP/IP and have been for quite a while (since migrating from NetWare 4.xx and losing NWlink IPX/SPX). As a matter of fact, I don't even notice the status of NetBEUI half of the time.

No monitoring tools are in the mix either. We do load HP TopTools on our networks prior to shipping them to our customers, but it is only used as an aid to the staging effort and the package is disabled/uninstalled prior to being shipped.

If HPTT is the only thing that needs it, I should be able to safely remove NetBEUI after the package is removed, right?

Thanks.

Hi,

Go to the following key

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services
Do a search on the word "Performance" and delete every folder that you find called "performance" DO NOT DELETE any other key JUST a Sub Folder called "Performance" and that should make your life quieter!

You are responsible for making sure that you can recover in case of any problems, not my fault if you do the above....Standard Wimp Out Clause!

Cheers,
Ogi
