Applicartions don't show on the TaskBar?

Hey,

I usally know my way around Win98, but I have encoutered a problem that I don't know about and couldn't find any information on the internet...
here it is:
I have a Win98SE that the Taskbar don't show the applications that's runnning.. lets say I'm working on Word and Excel, they're icons don's show, and I have to press ALT+TAB to shift between the apps....
I've checked all the quick launch and stuff nothing helps..

idea's would be most welcomed... TANX! Hey, make your did for today!
