App launches slowly

I am using API systems' Report Express w/Pervasive7 on a Novell 4.1 server-IPX only. My workstations are Win2K,SP2.
Recently when launching the app the users received a message
telling them the software detected on their system needed to
be upgraded. Now when they run the program it takes almost 2
minutes to load. Any help would be appreciated.

Pervasive.SQL 7, and indeed any software that Pervasive has ever released does not have messages that need to be upgraded. I have often had MS software, Win2K specifically, tell me that an udpate was needed, but you should be able to turn that functionality off. I don't see why that would cause the application to load slowly, and it's not too likely that issues with the database would cause the app to load slowly, though networking issues could certainly cause the database to slow down, thus making the application load slow.

Regards,
Pervasivite

The upgrade message was generated by Report Express. This happens whenever older dll(s) are detected by the program.
The program only needs a btrieve client to function. I tried other clients besides the Pervasive package to install btrieve with no discernable difference in performance. I have other software that uses btrieve and I have often had to replace corrupted btrieve files on the server to get out of "please reinstall" loops.

I solved this problem by enabling the Routing and Remote Access service on the Win2K workstations. Windows 2000 needs a static route to the IPX/SPX server and this was the
only way I could do it for now. Of course any machine with
a modem installed had to be locked down.
