I'm running Windows XP with service pack 1a installed and have noted that the CPU is running at 100% all the time. On checking the 'Task Manager' I found it is due to the fact that an 'Apache.exe' (what ever that is) is running at 98-98% all the time. Can anyone tell me why this might be happening and how to resolve it. Thanks Steve.

Hi,

Y can control the tasks running at a given time in the task bar to optimise your pc performance. How will you do it?Try the following procedure

1.From the command prompt type msconfig

2.In the next screen appearing,go to the start up menu and a list of programms which appears in your task bar will appear

3.There will be provision to remove the program mentioned by you from the task bar

4.Remove it from the start up menu and restart the pc

5.I hope this will solve your problem

Thanks for your comments. Shutting down anti virus had no effect also checked your links which were searches I had already undertaken without discovering the answer. Thanks all the same.

I have already considered shutting down the problem application (Apatche.exe) but got a warning which put me off.

I believe there has just been released an update for the Apache Server. It might be worth trying that.
