I have installed AOL 7.0, and know I can not explore using IE 5 or use any other internet app, but AOL. In AOL I can do everything. Also While connected using AOL I can't ping any sites, and when I uninstall AOL I cannot use IE to browse or any other internet app unless I reinstall Windows 98 SE, any help.

The problem is with the AOL software itself, I had a similar problem with that...when I called AOL they informed me that I needed an "tweak" file that can fix that problem...
Call AOL and tell them your situation and get that tweak...they email you the tweak to you AOL acount, after you install it just restart AOL (although I restarted my PC) and everything should work fine... I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

If you want to use IE after you uninstall AOL, go to control panel/internet options/connections tab, set you old dial-up connection as the default, or make a new dial-up check apply, your done..... "More Than Merely Names"
YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN

Sounds like after the install, when asked if you want AOL to be your default browser, you answered 'yes'.
If this is so, uninstall AOL, re-install and this time don't let it be default. My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.

Is there still people that use AOL the crash monster,
Cute little buttons don't make a good program,
I've had now, 24 people call me for AOL problems, this month.
In each case I noticed the lack of basic computer skills,
You can't hind in AOL, someday you'll have to learn something about your computer other then clicking little cute buttons, these people didn't even know where their files were,
The most important part of using a computer is being able to save documents, if you don't understand the file system you'll never be able to find anything...

I encourage people to learn more about their systems and drop AOL it will expand your mind...

take care all!

I still can't get it to work, any other ideas, I am running out of time.

Maverick!!
I agree to some degree with what you say, but AOL does have some good points as an ISP;
For me it is rare not to connect first time.
It is very reasonably priced.
It offers as fast a connection as any other I've tried.
There's nothing wrong with their browser.
The e-mail service is excellent, and you can transfer files of up to 15Mb in size.
They don't diconnect you after 1 or 2 hours.
I, for one will swallow my pride and continue to use it - no point in downgrading the service simply because AOL is considered by some 'experienced' users as 'naff'. My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.
