Hello all -

I have the 4.1 demo cd. I want to install it on a laptop running WindowsXP Pro, to use in teaching, etc.

I followed the FAQ directions from NCR's website for installing this demo on this type of machine.

The installation went fine - no errors reported at all.
However, the familiar 'Teradata Start' applet wasn't installed. On the database menu under the Start button there was only the Teradata prompt and the Database window.

I attempted to start the database, but to no avail.
I tried running tpareset.exe but I got a message about
the PDE device not being available.

Anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Networking seems to be fine. And as I say, no errors were reported during the installation.

This is the error I found in the event viewer:
Event number 33-11466-00 (severity 40, category 9), occurred on Wed

The other thing that confuses me is that the following services are all up and running (set to automatic and started):
Teradata GTW Reserve Port
Teradata inetd Service
Teradata RDBMS Initiator

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

I can always log in to our remote system, but when I am on the road this isn't always possible or practical so my sense of urgency is pretty high on this.

The "Teradata RDBMS Initiator" service is not supposed to be started. It is only used to kick off the start process and then exits again.
Did you reboot after installation? It's a Microsoft OS ;-)

Did you try a "net start recond" starting it manually?

Did you put the PDELIB.DLL from the ZIP file on top of the tdat\Lpde\bin\pdelib.dll as instructed by the read me?

the above error was the reason we had to build the ZIP file and make the directions.

Yes - I did all the things in the instructions, including copying PDELIB.DLL into tdat\Lpde\bin\pdelib.dll - effectively overwriting the file.

Here's a new error message - I get this after net start recond, which starts the initiator successfully,
0 WSA E Unknown socket error.

I got this from QMan

Oh well, back to the drawing board

I'm having the same problems with the demo. Whenever I tried to Start Teradata! just after a few seconds I get the message Down/Stopped at the bottom of the Teradata Service Control.

I'm using Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Service Pack 3 and have installed the update files namely pdelib.dll and setup.ini. I followed the instructions provided in the readme file.

I've tried these thrice already but to no avail.

I would appreciate any help out there.

try this one.

open the host file and place the entries

127.0.0.1 localhost demo1099cop1 dbc cbccop1
