In a nutshell...

Can an externally powered hardware wedge pass ascii code directly from scanner to an rs232 port?

I have a home theater unit that will accept setup commands via a serial port. I don't believe it is powered and i'm not sure if it's 2-way communication.

I only need it to read the port anyway...but it is expecting ascii strings.

any thoughts?

To see what you are getting from any RS-232 device
Open Hyper terminal, it comes with all Version of Windows
It's in Programs /Accessories

Set it to the Com port in question
Don't mess with any other settings, leave all default.

Scan something and see what you get
