We have added some new Compaq Deskpro 4000 pc (PIII 600/650). When we hook them up to the network (Novell) performance goes way down. We have ordered them with 64mg RAM and then added 64mg. We have tested cable, changed network cards in a few, taken out the added RAM, updated drivers, and nothing seems to make any difference. PC that were in these locations had no network performance issues. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate hearing them.
Thanks

Might I recomend you try a protocal other than Novell, like just hooking them up on Microsoft TCP/IP protocal(TCP/IP should be enough, if not try adding IPX, but not netbeui)
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML,Visual InterDev 6, ASP(WebProgramming), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

You just added the workstation? Verify that you are using the latest netware client. I found that the 3.10 client works well w/ compaq. If you haven't tried this version you might want to. Make sure you use the current netware client uninstall program. If you don't some settings may still reside in registry and problems will still exist.

Once client is installed there are several settings you might want to take a look at. Make sure Protocol Preferences have the proper protocol at top of list. also make sure Name Resolution Order has your name resolution at top of list. Under Advanced Settings Netware Protocol should be NDS Bind.

I have seen your problem before. Seems to me that I had to add a setting to autoexec.bat, it was some type of switch that created a memory environment compaq required. Compaq web site has faq's on the subject. good luck.

As Karl said, I would check the protocols. I have found Novell to be boggy at times with protocol mismatches.
Al
atc-computing@home.com

Just a quick note on what we found. These workstations came preinstalled with Real Player. Unless the person login in had open access to the internet, it was in conflict with Novells Border Manager software.

Thanks for everyones input.
