I'm preparing to use BPCATARC to archive some .F files to tape to reduce our catalog size.

One caveat I see right off the bat is that if we were to restore the data back into the live DB then we would need additional space allocated since the DB would still techinically grow in size.

I'll try to keep this post up for people using CATARC in the future since it isn't well documented but vital once your catalog size get's much too large to keep adding space.

Our is currently..
843 GIG so it is reaching file sytem limits soon-

Luckily we have busines critical support right now.

Here's some info I've found for catalog archiving although I still haven't started it.

in order to run BPCATARC the catalog archiving feature you need to be at least 4.5 FP3

The process is three parts.

Here's the process we thought would be safest.

1.run bpcatlist | bpcatarc

this will create the image list and write it to tape.

2.next setup a vault job and vault it "twice"
3. once it is vaulted successfull
4.run bpcatlist | bpcatarc | bpcatrm
The .f files will be removed for the specific timeframe you specified and you will gain all the diskspace back.
