Anyone have any opinions on 10/100BaseT splitters?

I have been asked by a customer about them and whether they're any good.

My feelings are if you can afford it to use a 4 port hub/switch as this still gives you partitioning etc.

Or does partitioning still work on splitters?..

Presumably one cannot mix 10 and 100Mb on a split cable (the hub/switch wouldn't have a clue what speed to autosense to!)

Thoughts please!

Personally I would never use a splitter. The enterprise method of 100-BT connection is certainly a hub or switch.

Yes, don't mess with them. A 10/100 4 port autosensing hub can be picked up for about $50-$70 at "Best Buy" or one of the other mass marketing outfits. Not knowing your location, I can't be any more specific.
