--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
W98SE
BIOS Version/Date Award Software, Inc. ASUS CUV4X ACPI BIOS Revision 1009, 24/04/2001
ram : 896 mb ram
cpu : p3 997 mhz
hdd : hitachi deckstar 80 gb Model HDS722580VLAT20
sound : VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM)
driver: Vinyl AC’97 Audio (Wave) … doesn’t sound right??? Know a better driver please??
video : NVidia Riva 128/128ZX
Sound breaks up badly with dvd - and understand finding the right pci latency settings should do the trick ... Also believe Via can be problematic and maybe a patch is available??
Current settings from PCI Latency Tool 2.0:
Please note:
- VGA compatible controller shared with broadband
- Firewire not in use
Have tried:
a) VGA compatible controller 64 + everything else 0
b) VGA compatible controller 64 and increasing USB 2.0 in units of 8
Makes no difference. Would welcome advice on settings to try + your thoughts on any other possible causes? ... Bios settings etc??
[Main problem ... don't know what I'm doing ... guesswork ... help on how to calculate pci latencies would be brilliant!]
Many thanks,
Eponymous
