Just bought a new Dell with XP-Home (what a change from my old 133 Win95!) Anyhow, the auto update feature is already telling me there are updates that should be downloaded and installed. I have no problem with this, but I was wondering if there is any way to save these updates as they come in so I wouldn't have to download them all over again in the event I ever have to reinstall the OS.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

On the left side of the Windows Update page there is a choice - Windows Update Catalogue. If you follow this link you will eventually find a page which will allow you to save downloaded updates before you install them.
The bulk of the updates since XP's release are all included in SP1 - you can download/save this from here:
is the large version - you cannot save the express installion version)
This is also available on CD from Microsoft or I believe some computer magazines and books - although I do not know the names of the magazines - maybe someone else does. I got a CD copy when I bought Windows XP Inside Out (Deluxe).

I don't understand why. When I go to "updates" MS searches my computer and recommends those I don't have. I suppose that if I lost one it would be on the list. Maybe I'm noncholant because I have DSL so re-downloading them wouldn't be miserable, or maybe I don't understand your concern.
