Any VTP gotchas with this...

We are a large test lab containing well over 20 6509s/6513s.

Currently, each switch is set to transparent mode. We are playing with the idea of implementing VTP domains with VTP server. Anyone have any experience with this (large scale migration from transparent to VTP domain)? Any gotchas?

We are planning to select a pair of switches as the servers and insure all active vlans are configured. Then make 'em servers and change the others to client.

Any thoughts?

Only gotchas so far I have experienced with VTP is problem with VTP revision number. Each time there is a VLAN configuration change on the VTP server, it will cause the switch to increase VTP revision number by one and send this update to other switches in its VTP domain, causing them to update their VLAN configuration with new config.

The problem can arise if for example you want to add a switch into your domain, that was previuosly running elsewhere. The best solution is to erase config file and vlan.dat file from switch flash memory an reload the switch, just to be sure its VTP revision number is reset to zero. If it is not and the switch is added to the network, its VTP revision number can be greater than the one on last VTP update in your domain, causing the new switch to update all your VTP domain switches with wrong VLAN information. Tell me about the loss of connectivity then...
