Well we have decided to use Tapeware as our backup solution, could someone plz help sort out a solution of how the set-up should be for our Network.

Ok We have 2 Windows 2000 Servers. 2 Netawre 6 Servers, sooner or later the 2 Netware 4.11 servers will be put offline, but I would like to take a backup of them before they are taken offline. We also have a Windows 2000 workstation which is our Document Mgt system.

I would like some advice on how to set the backup and recovery strategy up!

Thanks

i'm not a tapeware guru but i use tapeware on all my servers. I refuse to ever go back to backup exec.

there is a way to install the network service on tapeware but it can be a bit of a pain to keep running. What I do on multiple windows 2000 servers is to run the integrated windows backup on one server, backup to file on the server with the tape drive nightly. backup the file to tape.

Not really sure how you want to backup your novell servers tho. Do you have a raid configuration on the novell servers? mirror or raid 5? If so, the chances of losing your server system would be slim. You can backup the data from the windows 2000 server.

These are just my general rules, makes life easier in the long run. No matter which way you do it, you've got to keep an eye on the backups and make sure they run.

BTW, I normally set up a scheduled manual backup for every night of the week. Again, this depends on how much data you have overall and can you fit all the data on one tape.

Good luck.
