Any new opinions on antivirus on VMPro PC? (last relevant post here was 2yrs ago)

Any reason I could install, say, Microsoft Security Essentials on our WinXP VMPro PC? It's possible to tell MSE to ignore *.wav files, or specific folders.

Because of the nature of our business, we're audited frequently. And, while I could make a case that the computer is not on the same network as our data/domain, it *is* a Windows PC...

I did search this forum and encountered the advice on ensuring the proper firewall ports are enabled (via AvayaFW.bat?).

My experience with AV is that you should know the AV and allow the programs and folders for Avaya.
But this is different for every AV.

So, by "allow" do you mean just leave the antivirus' default installation as is, let it inspect all files and folders?

Most AV's have an option to allow programs and not to interfere with it.
It is called different for every AV so you need to search for it.

The main thing to consider is whether and how often the AV should be allowed to run things like full disk scans since that kind of process can be a resource hog. Normal on the fly checking of files as and when files are accessed shouldn't be an issue.
