Anti-Virus Installation Error

I am trying to install Norton 2004 on XP pro it goes through most of the install process even reboots and then the error appears stating unable to find file "navapsvc.exe"
I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no success. Support has advised to install liveupdate first them install NAV, but this is not working either.
Hey any suggestions out there.

Hmmm don't know if this helps, but I had this same problem last evening while helping a friend who had tried to install NAV 2004 on a clean install of XP. All sorts of weird things had happened with icons appearing after her first "successful" install and she got an error message about a missing a file when she tried to launch it. We did an uninstall, scanned her drive for viruses, reinstalled NAV and then did a complete scan of her computer and lo and behold, that time it worked. Go figure!
