Hi folks, I have a question about the Deleted Items Retention policy. Most of the questions on here that I have scanned through have people wanting to decrease the retention policy from lets say 7 days to 0 days. What I would like to do is increase the policy from 7 days to something like 15 or 20 days, but my question is, if I do this will this delete the items already being stored in retention?

hm good question, I belive that retention is based on current state when the management interval hits it....so if the retention was set to 7 days then account deleted and then retention increased to 15 I belive that your item is retained for the 15 days.
Perhaps gurus can confirm...but I would imagine that it depends on your 'Mailbox Management Interval' and what 'it' sees when it runs.
an easy test would be deleting an email and changing the above interval. If you don't have the luxury to do so then post here...
All the best!

As far as I know when you change the deleted retention time all mails not expired at that exact moment then become set for deletion in the furure.

Its the same when you change down. From 7 to 0 any mails over the specified age are then considered ready for deletion.

But delete a spam mail and see what happens as lebisol suggested then you'll KNOW....

It should be based on the management interval. And changing UP shouldn't delete what's already in there (that's not older than the new setting).
