Animated gif rollover onto slice. Not behind

I've built a site using fireworks. Two layers. Top layer has a picture frame on it, shared acroos all frames. Second layer has 5 frames with a different picture in each frame. I have a slice in the middle of the picture frame and am using a sophisticated rollover to swap the pictures on this slice. The pictures appear behind the picture frame and appear to be "inside" the picture frame, as pictures tend to be!

I also have an animated gif which I wish to use to swap onto this slice. A fish swimming. The idea is to create an effect of a moving painting. The only problem is, the gif doesn't appear behind the picture frame. When I do a swap image from file, rather than a swap image from a different frame, the result is the swapped image appears above all layers. My fish appears to be swimming on top of the picture frame, instead of behind it.

I can't add the picture frame to the animated gif as it makes the file size too large.

Anyone got a solution how I make my animated gif swap behind the top layer? Or do I need to start learning Flash?

I know exactly what you are talking about...I just built something similar last night. I did not however use any animated gifs.

so in your swap image behaviour are you refrencing a file rather than a Fireworks frame for the animated fish?

Have you tried selecting the frame and using the Modify/Arrange/Bring to Front after setting up the swap image with the fish?

You are welcome to Send me the file or a link to the file online....

Let me know what you have tried... as far as the arrange options and moving the layers around...etc.

Did you create the animated gif in Fireworks? Ya' Gotta Love It!

Three animated gifs. Two done in MS Gif animator, one in fireworks.

Tried all sorts of things, bringing frame to the front, etc.

The problem remains,as the web layer where the slice is can not be moved, and the inserted animated gif appears on this layer for some reason.

If I could use a rollover in fireworks so that instead of swapping say fram 2 with fram 3, it swapped frame 2 then played in a loop, frames 3 to 6 I'd be set. Can't seem to find a way to do this though.

Anyone? Can it be done in fireworks? ANimated gif used as a sophisticated rollover appear behind a layer?

Not possible? Too hard?

I made an animated gif and put it in Fireworks 4. It did not work. It would work when i clicked on it and selected "preview in browser", but when i "preview in browser" the whole web site or page, it just stayed on that first image. Can you tell me what i may have done wrong? THanks!

To see mroe than the first image, check when you export it, you export it as an animated gif, not a plain gif.

chose file_exportpreview then change the file type to animated gif.

When you check it out next time, it should show all frames.

Not sure if this is what you were after but give it a try.
