We have recently moved an Oracle 8174 database from one solaris server to another. They are different types of server with different disks. However the database structure is the same.

Is it advisable to run analyze against the tables to recompute the statistics now we are using the new machine?

Your query sounds as if you are not doing analyze on a regular basis ? If not, you should be, otherwise the stats will be out of date.

How did you move those DBs?
With a backup on filesystems with same names of the original datafiles containers?
By exporting and then importing on a different DB?
In the 1st case Oracle has no way to understand the migration and, furthermore is not awared about the hw.
In the second case your DB has been analyzed during import

Analyze is run on a regular basis on the original server.

The database was moved by backing up the original files and restoring them to an identical directory structure on the new server.
