I was able to install MS Vistual Studio .Net 2005 Pro onto my Windows XP Pro with no problem. Now that I've moved to Vista Enterprise, when I tried to install from this same CD I purchased, I kept getting this error:

An unknown error occured while copying files to your temporary folder. Setup will now exit.

The cd is fine. It installs fine on another XP machine. And by the way, I did login as administrator on the Vista. So any idea why I kept receiving this error?

I don't have a Vista machine here to check with, but the usual suspects would be the 'temp' environment variable and the filesystem permissions on the temp folder itself.

Even though you are an Administrator, have you tried using the Run As Administrator option if it is available to you on the Setup.exe, or see this link if it is not available?

Many thanks for your responses. I got a work around that works for now. However, the original problem is still not resovled...but I did get what I wanted at the moment. If I copied all the contents of the two CDs into one folder and install it from there or burn to a DVD and install it from the DVD media than it works. So I'm not sure why.

I wonder if you were to remove/uninstall the CD drive while in Vista (from the Device Manager) and then reboot to Vista allowing it to rediscover the drive whether that would make a difference?

I have not tried that but I don't think it will work because I didn't have to do anything besides putting all the files from two CDs into one DVD media and it worked.
