Is there a MIB value that reports the ambient temperature. I am trying to monitor the temperature in one of my closets on the cheap.

Ambient Temperature

You need a device with a temp. sensor. This could be a router/ switch server etc... Ofcourse you get the temperature inside the device and this is generally higher than the ambient temp.
However if you monitor it closely and over a long period you could maybe correlate the inside with the outside temp...
For the OID look in the MIB of your devices (Compaq insight manager has it, some Cisco switches (e.g. 4000, 6000 ...) and I'm sure other devices as well
