Am Connected and Blind

Note that I have Win2K Prof, not Win2K server.
Still I got one Win2K to connect with another Win2K over VPN.
Now what?
I wish to open a simple text file on the VPN server from the VPN client but it seems that the VPN server is required to be a web server..it wants a domain name or a file like :

http://www.domain.com/readme.html

Can I get around this?

And I am using a "DHCP Server" app on the VPN server side. Doesn't the definition of IP addresses by my meager little app get me fouled up with the Domain Name and IP Address Committee?? Those guys hand out the IP addresses don't they?

Any push in the right direction is appreciated.
