Alternate (multiple) name spelling in directory?

Is there any way to have multiple spellings for a persons name in the company directory. For example, we have an employee named Michael. So when you type in 6424 for MICH his extension comes up, but it doesn't come up when you type in MIKE, which is what some of our clients are trying. Is there a way to add is so 6453 MIKE will list his extension as well?

Which voice mail are you using?

I suppose you could create a phantom extension with the alternate spelling that is forwarded to the main extension. Would that still cover to the main extension's voice mail if unanswered?

We're using the Magix 3.0 for voicemail.
I just want it so that Mike and Mich will both come up with extension xxx as an option

TTT, it won't work.

I can deliver the call with the scenario you put forth, but it does not end up in VM of the forwared to person.

I thought of that too this morning, but I had to go on a call before I could test it.

Tonight, testing proved that the call could be delivered to the extension, but it would not go to VM.

I was using a Transfer Only for MICH, and a real MB for MIKE.

I would think that if we had a MB for MICH as well, the call would go there, but MIKE would have to check 2 MBs.

An interesting issue, I must say.....

Perhaps an addition to the Auto Attendant prompt would be advisable here......

Something like a quick one liner that says for "MICHAEL, dial XXX....." Before the prompt for "to search by name press *2".....

But then again, if someone has my Daughers name of MICHELLE as well, another prompt will be required......
