In the manual for Flash mail it tells me that under the greeting table I can set an attendant and this will override the operator settings.

Well, I set an extension number in the Attendant field but whenever I press "0" or let it time out, I get the message that the operator is not available and it goes right to the General Delivery Mailbox.

The extension is working.

Am I missing something or do I have a faulty system?

It will override the DN you have listed in F982, but you still have to have the operator available under F982.

Really?

But what if my operator isn't there? Wouldn't that be the whole point of having an alternate attendant? That there are calls for a certain group routed to a live person, even if the operator isn't there?

In your question you asked about operator settings under table properties. This has nothing to do with alternate attndt.

Alternate attndt is set under each mailbox, and can be different for each mbx.

I'm sorry - I misspoke myself I did not mean Alternate Attendant, I was referring to the Attendant you can assign in each Greeting Table (Right before you choose the CCR Tree) that allows you to override the Operator settings.

the calls will go to whoever is set up as an operator but if they are not always at their desk, then set up an answer DN of that ext. on another person's phone.

But what if I have no operator.
You see, I don't have an operator. So this feature, which, in the book, says it will bypass the operator settings, sounds like the ideal solution.

I set up the attendant as a phone between two sales clerks that is not being used.
But even though I have that phone programmed as the attendant, when I press 0 the calls do not go to that phone. Instead I get the recording that the operator is not available.

As I stated previously, you still have to have the operator available if you don’t want callers to hear "the operator is not available." Once that is set, if your programming is correct, it should ring the phone you have set as the target attndt under table programming.

If you have more than one table, and more than one "operator" setting, you should disable the gen deliv mbx so unanswered calls will go to the appropriate "operators" mailbox.

If your new target "operator" does not have a mailbox, then you should also disable the gen deliv if you don’t want it to go there. FYI- you can disable the gen deliv on all installs, as you can do the same thing with target attendant having a mbx.

Thank you for your help bkrike.

I still think it is silly that the operator has to be logged in for it to go to the attendant specified in the greeting table.. It makes no sense..

But I thank you for your explanation.
